Summary of this page
The 1st floor portion of the Multimedia Education and Research Complex at the Kawauchi Campus has a computer system installed that is used by various classes, including ICL classes. This is naturally used for classes but can also be used for independent study. This page provides a simple introduction of the method of use for the Information and Computer Literacy (ICL) system.
Note: This page covers handling of systems immediately after they have been newly installed. Note that the content of services may be changed without notice.
1. System summary
1.1 Users
The ICL system is available for use by all regular students at TU (undergraduates and graduates). User registration, etc. is not necessary to use the system.
1.2 Location and method of use
- Personal computers for users are installed at the ICL laboratories located on the 1st floor of the Multimedia Education and Research Complex.
- The personal computers at the ICL laboratories can be freely used for independent study in cases where they are not being exclusively used, such as for classes or events carried out by a laboratory.

Cannot be used for classes, events or independent study. |
- Cannot be used for independent study during hours where they are exclusively used for classes or events.
- ”Weekday” indicates a day on which general education classes are conducted on the TU general education school calendar.
- ”Holidays” include Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, summer and winter vacation. All ICL laboratories are closed on holidays.
- The “shorter period” indicates days that are neither holidays or weekdays.
- During typhoons, earthquakes or other natural disasters, taking into account the safety of users, all ICL laboratories will be completely closed without notice or closed early.
Note that the opening timeframe for ICL laboratories may be changed due to circumstances therefore check the recent information posted to the Center for Data-driven Science and Artificial Intelligence website.
2.4 User authentication
Regardless of the ICL laboratory where the computer is used or of type of computer or the OS environment being used, user authentication is carried out using the student number ID and TU ID and password.
2.5 User home domain
- The home disk domain is allocated for each user in the ICL system regardless of the ICL laboratory where the computer is used or of the OS environment being used.
- The capacity for a home domain is 1GB per user. Cannot be used when exceeding the storage capacity.
- When the use of the home domain near the capacity limit, problems will occur, including no longer being able to log in and the computer will run slower. To free up space on the domain, delete unnecessary files and/or transfer and store data in a different location.
3. Technical assistant
Technical assistants (also known as Tech-A for short) are graduate students that man the ICL help desk (M102). They answer various user questions and consultations that are received regarding systems, and information and computers. Feel free to contact us. For detailed information on technical assistants, such as the timeframe and location where consultations are possible, see the Center for Data-driven Science and Artificial Intelligence website.
